For a MapleStory Classic World Mage guide, the official first-job name to look for is Magician. Reach Lv10 and speak to Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia, then return at Lv30 to choose Wizard (Fire/Poison), Wizard (Ice/Lightning), or Cleric. The current Founder's Access character cap is Lv100, and the saved release notes cover first and second job advancement. Numerical Mage builds, skill priorities, and class rankings remain Pending confirmation (待确认) where current evidence is missing.

01

Mage searches refer to the official Magician job

Mage is the searched term this guide answers, while Magician is the starting job named in Nexon's current release notes. The three confirmed branches belong to Magician's second advancement. The wording does not establish an additional starting class called Mage or a separate advancement route under that name.

Every character begins as a Beginner on Maple Island before traveling to Victoria Island and choosing a job. Magician is one of four first-job options, alongside Warrior, Bowman, and Thief. In the current notes, all four first advancements open at Lv10, including Magician, so use that requirement when planning your Ellinia visit.

02

Meet Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia

At Lv10, speak to Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia to complete the Magician first advancement. Both the town and instructor are explicitly documented in the current release notes. The notes do not give the instructor's precise position or a step-by-step route through the town.

Read the advancement dialogue presented in your current client before confirming. Pending confirmation (待确认): a full quest sequence and any additional attribute or test requirements are not established by the published summary. This guide therefore does not turn remembered rules from a different MapleStory release into prerequisites for Classic World.

03

Choose a Wizard path or Cleric at Lv30

Return to Grendel the Really Old at Lv30 for the second advancement. Wizard (Fire/Poison), Wizard (Ice/Lightning), and Cleric are the three options listed in the current overview. These names confirm available paths, while the release notes explain that second advancement gives access to new skills.

The two Wizard names distinguish elemental paths, but the source does not publish their current skill tables or damage values. Cleric is likewise confirmed as a branch without a complete current description of its abilities. A class name or an older reputation is insufficient evidence for a solo-leveling winner, a required party role, or a best bossing choice.

Pending confirmation (待确认): changing the selected branch later, the cost of doing so, and the treatment of allocated points. The official material used here does not describe that process. Review the current branch information before choosing instead of assuming an undocumented reset makes the decision reversible.

04

What is confirmed about Mage builds

The official Classic World introduction describes balance adjustments, gameplay improvements, and quality-of-life changes. It does not identify a current Magician skill change or provide an AP/SP allocation. Its statement that the game revisits early MapleStory is context for the setting, not proof that an old numerical build remains valid.

Pending confirmation (待确认): Magician attribute distributions, first-job skill orders, Wizard build sequences, Cleric skill priorities, equipment recommendations, and reset rules. A reliable numerical guide needs current skill descriptions and evidence about how its point rules behave. Until those details are verified, this page provides the available choices and advancement contacts rather than inventing a strongest build.

05

Crafting starts when Magician advancement opens

The current crafting system becomes available to characters at Lv10. Crafting NPCs display items and their material requirements, and further crafting develops skills that unlock additional recipes. You can investigate that system at the same level as the first Magician advancement.

The six named professions are Smithing, Weaponcrafting, Tailoring, Woodcrafting, Leatherworking, and Arcforge. No profession is designated as mandatory for Magician, either Wizard branch, or Cleric in the published overview. Pending confirmation (待确认): the best profession, specific recipes, exact costs, and a crafted Mage equipment progression need more detailed evidence.

06

Citizenship does not replace your Ellinia instructor

Citizenship is available from Lv12 in Henesys and Kerning City. The official contacts are Arthur in Henesys Town Hall and Roxy in Kerning City Civic Center. Ellinia remains the Magician advancement destination, but the current notes do not announce an Ellinia citizenship option.

Town residents can use Community Board requests to earn Contribution toward a citizenship grade. Confirmed perks include local specialty-shop access and discounts on cabs, Storage Keeper services, and some general store items. These are separate systems from the Magician job; the overview does not connect a town choice to a superior Wizard or Cleric build.

07

Cooperative content before second advancement

From Lv21, characters can enter First Time Together, the Kerning City Party Quest. The official description includes puzzles, monsters, and a King Slime encounter. This is a confirmed cooperative milestone between your first advancement and the Lv30 specialization choice.

The current notes do not impose a Magician branch requirement or identify a Cleric-only party slot. They also list Mano, Mushmom, Shade, Zombie Mushmom, and Jr. Balrog as five available challenge bosses without prescribing a Mage build. Pending confirmation (待确认): expected party roles, minimum damage, solo-clear levels, and boss skill rotations require current encounter evidence.

08

Configure movement, controller support, and language

Choose either Classic Style or Modern Style for the default key layout; Modern Style supports WASD movement. Controller support must be enabled in Game Options because its default state is off. The official FAQ lists DualSense, DualShock, and Xbox support through USB or Bluetooth.

Set the controls you intend to use before judging how comfortable a Magician path feels. The available options do not establish a special controller build or alter the confirmed advancement levels. English is supported and Spanish is in beta; after changing language at the login screen or in Game Options, relaunch the game to apply it.

09

Cosmetic packages do not provide Mage power

The Founder's Package page says its items grant no stats or gameplay bonuses. Its outfit sets can be worn by any job or gender, with no weapon restrictions on those appearance items. A themed outfit or cosmetic weapon therefore does not establish a Magician equipment requirement, a Wizard damage upgrade, or a Cleric build choice.

10

Version boundary and unfinished details

This guide follows the official Founder's Access material checked on October 7, 2026. Confirmed Magician progression covers the Lv10 and Lv30 advancements and the Lv100 character cap. The official Ossyria Exploration Report explicitly excludes third job advancement, Orbis, and El Nath from both Founder's Access and initial Grand Launch.

Nexon plans to rework that content and introduce it later, without supplying release dates. Pending confirmation (待确认): the future third-job release date, plus fourth-job availability and timing. The April 2026 Closed Online Test used a separate environment, so its progress, event rewards, and test-only channel rules do not establish current Magician instructions.
