To become a Thief in MapleStory Classic World, reach Lv10 and speak to Dark Lord in Kerning City. Return to Dark Lord at Lv30 to choose Assassin or Bandit. The current Founder's Access notes document first and second job advancement and a character cap of Lv100. This Thief guide covers those confirmed steps and nearby progression systems, while exact builds and branch rankings remain Pending confirmation (待确认).

01

Your character starts as a Beginner

Thief is one of four confirmed first-job choices alongside Warrior, Magician, and Bowman. Every character initially begins as a Beginner on Maple Island, where the official introduction places the first quests, monsters, and basic controls. You later travel to Victoria Island and choose a job, making Kerning City your Thief advancement destination.

The official game introduction describes gameplay improvements and balance adjustments within an early MapleStory setting. That statement does not identify a specific current Thief skill change or validate a build from another release. Use the current advancement contacts and documented systems to plan your first steps.

02

First advancement: Dark Lord at Lv10

At Lv10, speak to Dark Lord in Kerning City to complete the first Thief advancement. The instructor and town are named in the Founder's Access release notes. The official summary does not supply Dark Lord's exact map position or a detailed travel route through the city.

Read the advancement information in your current client and follow the instructions it presents. Pending confirmation (待确认): additional dialogue stages, advancement tests, and attribute requirements are not documented in the saved overview. Rules from a different MapleStory release should be checked before you spend points to satisfy an assumed prerequisite.

03

Assassin or Bandit at Lv30

Return to Dark Lord at Lv30 to select your specialized path. Assassin and Bandit are both explicitly included in the current second-job list. They are branches of Thief, so neither is listed as a starting choice that skips the Lv10 advancement.

The current overview says second advancement opens new skills, but it does not provide a complete skill table for either branch. Their inclusion does not prove a solo-leveling winner, a boss damage ranking, or a preferred party role. Compare the current descriptions presented for each option before deciding which path interests you.

Pending confirmation (待确认): whether the chosen branch can later be changed, how points are handled, and what a change costs. The saved official pages do not describe a branch-switching process. Review the Lv30 decision without relying on an undocumented free reversal.

04

Thief builds need current evidence

An Assassin build or Bandit guide needs the applicable skill descriptions, point rules, equipment requirements, and evidence for the activity being recommended. The official material used here confirms the branch names and advancement milestones but supplies no numerical AP/SP route. A familiar class name does not make another classic server's skill values transferable.

Pending confirmation (待确认): Thief AP distributions, first-job SP priorities, Assassin and Bandit skill orders, reset rules, best equipment, and damage comparisons. The general promise of balance changes does not establish which individual skills were changed. This guide keeps those questions open instead of turning an unsupported build into instructions.

05

Kerning City citizenship from Lv12

At Lv12, you can investigate citizenship through Roxy in Kerning City Civic Center. Roxy's citizenship role is separate from Dark Lord's job advancement role. Becoming a Thief is not described as automatically granting Kerning City citizenship or completing its requests.

Town residents can fulfill Community Board requests and earn Contribution toward their citizenship grade. Published perks include specialty-shop access and discounts on cab travel, Storage Keeper services, and some general store goods. Henesys offers another citizenship path through Arthur in Henesys Town Hall.

The official overview does not identify a Thief-only citizenship benefit or require Assassin and Bandit to choose different towns. It also does not publish the discount values or a best specialty-shop purchase for either branch. Pending confirmation (待确认): those comparisons require current citizenship and shop evidence.

06

First Time Together at Lv21

Characters at Lv21 and above can participate in First Time Together, the Kerning City Party Quest. The current description combines puzzles, monster encounters, and King Slime in a cooperative activity. Its level milestone falls before the Lv30 Assassin or Bandit choice, so it is an option during first-job progression.

The published introduction does not require a Thief in every party or establish a Thief-specific entry test. It also does not publish the exact party-size, channel, reward, or efficiency rules needed for a complete current Party Quest route. Pending confirmation (待确认): those details should be checked in current evidence rather than imported from the April Closed Online Test.

07

Crafting and challenge bosses

The crafting system opens at Lv10, with Smithing, Weaponcrafting, Tailoring, Woodcrafting, Leatherworking, and Arcforge named as its professions. Crafting NPCs show available items and material requirements, while further crafting develops skills that unlock more recipes. The overview does not designate a required profession for either Thief branch.

The five listed challenge bosses are Mano, Mushmom, Shade, Zombie Mushmom, and Jr. Balrog. Their availability does not establish a Thief solo-clear level, a strongest branch, or a best crafted bossing set. Pending confirmation (待确认): recipes, equipment recommendations, and encounter builds need sources beyond the general feature list.

08

Choose your controls and language

Classic World offers Classic Style and Modern Style default key layouts, with WASD movement in Modern Style. Controller recognition requires Enable Controller Support in Game Options, because the option begins disabled. The official FAQ confirms DualSense, DualShock, and Xbox controllers using USB or Bluetooth connections.

Prepare the input method you intend to use as you learn Thief, rather than assuming a particular layout is required by your branch. These control options do not establish a damage advantage or a different job progression. English is supported, Spanish is in beta, and language changes from the login screen or Game Options take effect after relaunching the game.

09

The Founder's Thief Outfit Set is cosmetic

The package page explicitly states that its items provide no stats or gameplay bonuses. Its Founder's Thief Outfit Set can be equipped by any character regardless of job or gender, with no weapon restrictions on the appearance items. The set's name therefore does not make it required for Thief or turn its cosmetic dagger into an Assassin or Bandit equipment recommendation.

10

Version scope and remaining questions

This guide follows the official Founder's Access material checked on October 7, 2026. Confirmed Thief progression covers the Lv10 and Lv30 advancements and the Lv100 character cap. The official Ossyria Exploration Report explicitly excludes third job advancement, Orbis, and El Nath from both Founder's Access and initial Grand Launch.

Nexon plans to rework that content and introduce it later, without supplying release dates. Pending confirmation (待确认): the future third-job release date, plus fourth-job availability and timing. The April 2026 Closed Online Test used a separate environment, so its progress, event rewards, and test-only channel rules do not establish current Thief instructions.
